Phoneme Flashcards
What it is
Phoneme Flashcards is a focused practice tool for the 19 Korean consonants and 21 vowels. It supports both directions:
Hangul → Romanization (see the sound behind the letter), and
English (romanization) → Hangul (pick the correct Korean letter).
Each prompt links a letter’s shape, its Korean name, and a romanization cue to speed up shape–sound binding.
Levels
Level 1 — Hangul • Consonants (HC): Identify consonant letters and their core sounds.
Level 2 — Hangul • Vowels (HV): Map vowel letters to their basic vowel qualities.
Level 3 — English → Hangul • Consonants (EC): Choose the right Hangul consonant for a romanization cue.
Level 4 — English → Hangul • Vowels (EV): Choose the right Hangul vowel for a romanization cue.
Level 5 — Mixed Drill (recommended): Rotate all four modes for randomized review.
How to Use
Select a mode (HC, HV, EC, EV) using the top buttons.
See the prompt on the left panel:
HC/HV show a Hangul letter → you’ll pick a romanization.
EC/EV show a romanization → you’ll pick the Hangul letter.
Pick the answer on the right panel. You’ll get immediate feedback: OK or Try again.
On correct, the app automatically advances to the next item.
Reset anytime with Clear to return to the initial state.
Suggested micro-routine (5–10 min): Run one full mode (1–2 min) → switch to another → finish with Mixed Drill.
What You’ll Gain
Shape–Sound Binding: Faster mapping between letter shapes, names, and sounds.
Early Precision: Clearer contrasts for tense consonants and complex vowels.
Decoding Speed: Solid prep for batchim (finals), syllables, and words.
Short, Repeatable Wins: Noticeable progress from concise daily sessions.
Pro Tips
Use earphones or speakers for clean perception; shadow (repeat aloud) immediately.
For vowels, exaggerate mouth shape and tongue position to feel contrasts.
Keep tense consonants short and firm; keep monophthong vowels clean and steady.
One-Line Summary
Bind shape, name, and sound in one motion—then step smoothly into batchim, syllables, and words.
